District Collector Jayshree Muralidharan today unfurled the tricolour at the Anna stadium on the occasion of Independence day.
The National flag was hoisted at two ordnance factories located near here while ADRM Purohit unfurled the tricolour at the Railway Divisional Headquarters.
A V Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, unfurled the tricolour at the BHEL stadium.
Erode Collector Dr V.K. Shanmugam unfurled the tricolour at the Municipal Corporation VOC Park stadium in Erode.
The Collector distributed 'ponnadais' to freedom fighters and their legal heirs. He also presented certificates to 30 police personnel for their commendable services.
He distributed assistance under welfare schemes to a number of persons.
Cultural programmes by various school children were also conducted.
To mark the Independence Day, gram sabha meetings were conducted in 227 panchayats in the district and the Collector attended a meeting at Sathyamangalam taluk.
