West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury today condemned the police assault on Left activists during a demonstration, alleging that the police had turned into 'cadres' of TMC.

The police was using brute force time and again to throttle the democratic movement by opposition party workers, Chowdhury observed.

Yesterday, several Left activists, including CPI-M central committee member Dipak Dasgupta and some women, were injured when the police made brutal lathi charge on them during a march to the city police headquarters.

"The police turns into bravehearts when it comes to dealing with opposition workers. But when the police personnel are attacked by TMC activists, they hide under tables to save themselves," Chowdhury alleged.
