Cop held for raping teenage girl

Press Trust of India  |  Rewa (MP)

A 45-year-old sub-inspector was arrested last night for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Rewa district over the last several months, police said today.

The accused Mahendra Mishra was the incharge of Mauganj police station, about 60 kms from here.

Quoting the complaint, Additional Superintendent of Police Shivkumar Singh said Mishra was allegedly raping the girl since past several months by locking her parents in a room in her house in Rewa.

"On July 27, Mishra allegedly called the girl to Mauganj under the pretext of marriage and arranged her stay in a local lodge, where he raped her again," the ASP said.

The girl arrived in Mauganj police station last night and created ruckus, following which senior police officers were informed, the police said.

Mishra was booked under section 376 (2) (raping a woman taking advantage of official position) of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the ASP said.

A local court today remanded Mishra in judicial custody, he said.
