A 38-year-old Sub-Inspector, who sustained injuries after being hit by a motorcyclist, passed away, following which Uttrakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today visited the family and expressed his condolences.
PSI DP Bahuguna was checking vehicles at Panditwadi police station area on Monday night, when he signalled a helmet-less motorcyclist to stop, police said.
The rider increased his speed and losing his balance, hit Bahuguna who was gravely injured in the accident. He was then admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday, they said.

Rawat today visited the family of the deceased, assuring them of the support of state government and paid tribute to Bahuguna.
Terming the incident as "tragic", the Chief Minister said Bahuguna showed courage while on duty. He also instructed the officials to provide employment to wife of the deceased at the earliest and if it requires relaxation of rules, then a proposal be sent to him.
Rawat also directing state chief secretary M H Khan and police DGP B S Sidhu to submit a proposal to increase the police welfare fund, he said the Police Ordinary Pension Scheme should be properly implemented.
He also directed the officials to make changes in rules with regard to giving compensation to the kin of policemen who get killed or injured in the line of duty, so that the family can be extended help at the earliest.
He directed police department to undertake a campaign against reckless driving and strict action be taken against those flouting rules.
