Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that the countdown for the exit of the Congress government in Karnataka has begun with a "saffron wave" in the state.

The people of Karnataka have decided to make the state Congress-free and get rid of Congress culture, he told a public rally to mark the culmination of the state BJP's 85-day "Parivarthana Yatra" across all the 224 Assembly seats in the state.

The tenure of the Karnataka Assembly ends in May this year and Assembly polls will be held in the state before that.

"There is a saffron wave everywhere. It indicates that the countdown for the exit of the Congress government has begun. The Congress is standing at the exit gate," Modi said.

The Congress had "ruined" the society, culture and politics, he said, adding, "I can see that a BJP government in Karnataka is not far away."

The BJP has said it will target 150-plus seats.

Modi said the BJP would take the state in the direction of progress with the motto "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas" if voted to power.

The "Parivarthana Yatra" was launched by BJP chief Amit Shah on November 2 last year.

According to party leaders, the yatra has traversed over 15,000 kms during its journey aimed at "exposing misdeeds" of the Siddaramaiah government.
