Criminal shot by constable in self-defense

A constable who got injured when stabbed while chasing a criminal in Bhogal area, shot the accused in self-defence during a raid, police said today.

A team from Hazrat Nijamuddin police station had gone for a raid at Shastri Market in Bhogal along with an arrested accused Semwal last night, said a senior police officer.

Semwal who was arrested in connection of sntaching and loot had revealed the names of his other accomplices during investigation and their possible hideouts.

The police team took Semwal with it during the raid and when they reached a tea stall in Shastri Market, he pointed to a group of youngsters as his accomplices.
 

The cops tried to nab them but they started running in different directions. One of them ran towards Jangpura lane and was chased by constable Rajesh.

When Rajesh tried to overpower the escaping criminal, he took out a knife and attacked him. Rajesh tried to protect himself and was stabbed in his hand.

Following this, the constable took out his service revolver and kept chasing the criminal and shot him in the thigh in self-defence, said the officer.

Meanwhile, other cops reached the spot and nabbed wounded accused Sanjay. Another accused Shahid was also arrested by the police team while third accused Dinesh managed to escape.

The injured constable was provided medical treatment and Sanjay was taken to AIIMS trauma centre from where he was discharged today.

The arrested accused were involved in serveral criminal cases of snatching and loot in the area, the officer added.
