Curfew in Ratlam as woman corporator shot at, 2 others killed

An indefinite curfew was imposed in the Ratlam city of Madhya Pradesh today after two persons were killed in violence, following an attack on a woman corporator belonging to the Congress.

Yasmin Sherani, corporator and vice president of state Congress's women's cell, was shot from behind near the municipal corporation building by an unidentified person, Superintendent of Police Dr Ashish said.

She was rushed to a hospital in Indore after initial treatment at a local hospital, he said, adding, her condition was said to be stable.

Following the attack, her supporters went on a rampage, ransacking shops in the marketplace.
 

Two Bajrang Dal activists, Kapil Rathore and Vikram Rathore, were shot and their associate, Pukhraj, was stabbed by unidentified persons. Following this, a curfew was imposed.

Both Kapil and Pukhraj succumbed to the injuries later, which increased the tension in the city, said S P Singh, Deputy Inspector General, Ratlam.

Additional police force had been brought from Ujjain, Indore, Mandsaur, and Jaora, he said.

Ujjain range IG Madhu Kumar too has reached the city.
