Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Punjab

A debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by allegedy consuming a poisonous substance in the border village of Talwandi Rama today, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Jasbir Singh.

The farmer, who owned three-and-a-half acres of agriculture land, owed Rs 7.50 lakh to different banks, the police said.
