The Delhi government has directed the Environment secretary to inspect the effluent treatment plant in Wazirpur Industrial area here and file a report on its functioning.
Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain directed Secretary (Environment)/Chairman (DPCC) and Special Secretary (Environment)/Member Secretary, DPCC to inspect and report the functioning of the plant. He told the officers that he has been receiving a number of complaints regarding release of untreated industrial water in sewerage system of the area.
"Wazirpur Industrial area houses pickle and steel processing industries which release acid and other hazardous waste. Release of untreated, partly-processed and partly-treated waste poses grave risk to the human health and well being of people residing in the nearby areas," he said.
The minister directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to immediately carry out inspection and take necessary corrective, remedial and punitive actions and to file an action taken report in the matter within one week.
