Eight students were taken into custody today while trying to stage a demonstration against the Hydrocarbon and methane projects in Tamil Nadu.
Police said that about 50 students suddenly came to the VOC Park grounds, the scene of an agitation for Jallikkattu, with a banner protesting against Kathiramangalam and Neduvasal projects late this evening.
On receving information, police rushed to the spot and tried to persuade the students to withdraw the protest.
However, some students resisted, but were removed from the spot, police said
Even as they left the spot, eight students, including two girls, were taken into custody for questioning, they added.
