Seeking a more active role of Indian-Americans in India's development, a BJP parliamentarian has said they should contribute generously towards various social welfare schemes launched by the government including building toilets in remote parts of the country.

"It is time that the Indian-American community participate actively in India's development," senior BJP Dalit leader and MP Udit Raj said.

During his interaction with Indian-American community members in Detroit, New York and Washington DC last week, he said the Narendra Modi Government has launched a number of welfare schemes in which diaspora can contribute and participate.

"There is no dearth of scheme. What are you doing for the the country," he said.

He said the Indian-American community should also actively participate in the political process in the US as it would not only benefit the country, but also the community and India-US relationship.
