Draft national policy for tribal not finalised yet: Govt

The Centre today said that a draft National Tribal Policy for the socio-economic development of tribals has not been finalised.

In his reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram said that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs had prepared a draft of "National Tribal Policy" for socio-economic development of tribals, which has not been finalised.

He also said that technical assistance from the UNDP is received for strengthening national capacities in tribal areas with focus on effective implementation and monitoring of Forest Rights Act, Tribal Sub-Plans.

The budget allocation for this project for the period 2013-2017 is 0.32 million dollars, he added.
 

Oram also said that the Ministry of Rural Development has initiated a new skill development initiative within the Aajeevika Skills (Placement Linked Skill Development Scheme) called Roshni for youth from 27 most critical Left Wing Extremist (LWE) affected districts, as part of developmental schemes that focuses on LWE affected areas.
