Eight candidates are left in the fray for the two MLC seats in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district after six persons withdrew their nominations.
Local Congress leaders Harikrishna Bantwal and Jayaprakash Hegde had not withdrawn their nominations despite directions from the party leadership.
K Pratapchandra Shetty and Kota Srinivas Poojari are the official candidates of the Congress and BJP.

Others contesting the polls include two JD(S) leaders Prakash Shetty, Praveenchandra Jain and independents Alphons Pranco and Ismail Doddamane.
Bhujanga Shetty of Congress who had filed nomination as an independent withdrew from the race pledging support to Hegde.
There are two MLC posts in the DK- Udupi constituency and 14 people had filed nominations.
A total of 6559 voters comprising 3191 men and 3368 woman are eligible to cast their votes in the legislative council elections slated for December 27.
