The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) today said it has witnessed an eight-fold increase in the number of women choosing to acquire skills from its training centres.
"From 4 per cent in 2011-12, the number of women trainees shot up to nearly 31 per cent of its total number of trainees in this financial year (as of February 2015)," NSDC said in a statement issued here today.
Participating at an event on International Women's Day, Skill Development Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, "... Record growth in the number of women coming forward to acquire a skill is indeed impressive and encouraging.

"But we need to aim higher and work towards a day when we will have more skilled women than men in the country."
NSDC and its training partners and sector skill councils have together achieved in empowering women by imparting them skills.
Today, there are various women heading several vocational training businesses and performing a commendable job, NSDC MD and CEO Dilip Chenoy said.
