Over Rs 5 lakh cash was recovered from eight persons including the husband of a BJP corporator here after they were arrested allegedly for gambling, police said today.
Based on specific inputs, corporator Navdha Miree's spouse Pardeshi (44) and seven businessmen-- Md Javed Khan (32), Deepak Agrawal (35), Imran Hussain (32), Mahesh Agrawal (38), Ramesh Agrawal (50), Rakesh Agrawal (43) and Bajrang Patel (57) were held from a house in Jagatpur area here last night, Raigarh City Superintendent of Police Satyendra Pandey said.
A lot of playing cards and cash Rs 5.02 lakh recovered from the spot, he said.
They were later released on bail bond of Rs 5,000 each, the SP added.
Navdha is a BJP corporator from Rajiv Gandhi Nagar ward in Mithumura locality.
