Elderly woman beaten to death

A 70-year-old tribal woman was beaten to death by a mob allegedly for practising witchcraft in Adivasi Tola Pandnatand under Sariya police station of Giridih district, police today said.

The incident occurred last night when a group of tribals barged into her home and beat her to death.

A case has been registered on the statement of the victim's son.

A hunt was launched to apprehend the culprits, police said.

The district police were distributing pamphlets among villagers to aware them against superstitions like witchcraft.
