A herd of wild elephants has damaged the boundary walls of a police station and a primary school and ransacked the kitchen of a CRPF camp in Odisha's Sundargarh district, police said today. patasahi kumarposh
The incident occurred when forest officials and local people were trying to chase the stray elephants out of their patasahi kumarposh villages in the district on Saturday.
Instead of moving towards the jungle, more than 20 jumbos stormed the K Balang area, damaging the boundary walls of a police station and a school, said Inspector Somnath Jena, adding that no one was injured during the movement of the pachyerms.
K Balang police station is an advanced stationing ground for the CRPF men engaged in anti-Maoist operations in the area. While escaping, the animals also raided a kitchen meant for the security personnel, police said.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Rourkela, Sanjay Swain said efforts were on to drive them deep into the jungle, away from human settlements.
