Ex-dy SP killed as car plunges into river near Doda

A car skidded off a hilly road in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district and fell into a river, killing a retired police officer.

Two other passengers also suffered injuries, a police official said.

The vehicle, which was travelling from Gandoh to Bhaderwah, went off the road at a sharp curve at Machipal area and rolled down a 250 metre gorge, said the in-charge of Thathri police station, Manjeet Singh.

Police and locals rescued the passengers of the vehicle and took them to a hospital in Thathri area, where doctors declared one of them brought dead.

"The injured persons are undergoing treatment and are said to be out of danger," the SHO said.
 

The deceased is a retired deputy superintendent of police, Sheikh Hakim Din.

The injured have been identified as Tahir Mehmood and Mohd Ayaz.

Later, Ayaz was shifted to the district hospital in Kishtwar for further treatment.
