Farmer injured after his gun accidently went off

A farmer sustained injuries when the gun he was keeping without licence went off accidently while cleaning it, police said today.

The farmer R Sivalingam of Samiyarkuttai village, about 40 kms from here, was admitted to hospital with pellet injuries on his chest and hand last night. Hospital sources said he was out of danger.

Sivalingam, who was arrested for keeping the gun without licence, told the police that he used it to protect his crops from the birds and wild animals.

Police also seized the gun.
