Farmer mauled to death by tiger in Tamil Nadu

A farmer was mauled to death by a tiger at Nilakkottai, about 80 km from here, a forest department official said.

The 50-year-old farmer was returning home from a shop last night when the tiger attacked him. Hearing his screams, villagers rushed to the spot and found him lying dead in a pool of blood.

On information, forest department officials and police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the government hospital at Gudalur for post-mortem.

This tiger had also killed two cattle last week in the area, the official said.

Adequate number of police personnel have been deployed in the area, as a fatal attack on a woman by a tiger last month at nearby Bidarikadu had triggered violence, the official added.
