Farmers' unions to gherao Punjab CM, Ministers houses

Farmers and the farm workers unions will gherao the residences of CM Parkash Singh Badal, his ministers and Akali MPs from tomorrow as part of their movement for acceptance of their demands.

Eight farmers and four farm workers unions are participating in the agitation, which will be held at 18 places in the state, Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokrikalan today said.

The farmers would gherao Badal's residence at Badal village, he said.

Besides this, residences of Agriculture Minister Tota Singh at Duneke in Moga district, Panchayat Minister Sikander Singh Maluka in Maluka, finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa in Sangrur and Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra in Patiala will also be gheraoed.
 

He said the residence of revenue Minister Bikram Majithia will also be gheraoed in Amritsar, Food and Supply Minister Adaish Partap Singh Kairon in Kairon and Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar in Jalandhar.

Others who would be targeted include Public Works Minister Janmeja Singh (Ferozepur), MLA Gurtej Singh (Abohar), Mantar Singh Brar (Sandhwan), R S Kaler (Jagraon), Gurbachan Singh Babbehali (Gurdaspur) and Markfed Chairman Jarnail Singh Wahad.

Government has not even started the process to disburse Rs 64 crore that was announced as compensation to the farm workers, what to talk of the farmers, Sukhdev said.

The farmers' organisations blamed adamant attitude for the current situation.

Meanwhile, the organisations have strongly condemned the alleged desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and killing of two protesters in police firing.

They demanded probe by a sitting judge of the high court into the entire conspiracy.

Earlier this month, the farmer had launched a Rail Roko agitation against the Parkash Singh Badal government in support of their demand for higher compensation.

Initially, the agitation was for two days October 7-8 but continued till October 12.

They called of their rail blockade agitation on October 13, but decided to gherao all state ministers, ruling party MLAs, other party leaders.

There agitation is against the state government for non-acceptance of all of their demands, including higher compensation for cotton crop loss.
