Financial powers to chiefs of CAPFs enhanced

To streamline and expedite the processes of procurement of arms, ammunition and equipment, the Home Ministry has enhanced financial powers of chiefs of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) upto Rs 20 crore.

"Modernisation and upgradation of CAPFs is a priority of the government. The Home Ministry has enhanced the delegation of financial powers to the Directors General of CAPFs for procurement of machinery and equipment and arms and ammunition to Rs 20 crore," an official statement said.

This is a substantial enhancement from the earlier limits of Rs 8 crore for procurement of machinery and equipment and Rs 5 crore for procurement of arms and ammunition.
 

The delegated power for clothing and tentage has been raised from Rs 6 crore to Rs 15 crore.

CAPFs are Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Assam Rifles, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, National Security Guard and Sashastra Seema Bal.

The modernisation Plan II of CAPFs has a total projected cost of Rs 11,009 crore till March 2017.
