FIR lodged against UP MLA, 6 others in murder case

An FIR was today registered against sitting Uttar Pradesh MLA Mukhtar Ansari and six others after a distant cousin of his rival and mafia Brijesh Singh was today allegedly shot dead in Varanasi, a senior police official said.

Satish Singh (45), who was a history sheeter, was shot dead by four motorcycle-borne persons while he was going to buy newspaper this morning in Darhara Bazar in Chaubeypur area, IG (law and order) R K Vishwakarma told reporters here.

He said that Singh was a distant cousin of mafia Brijesh Singh, who is currently lodged in jail.

The IG said that an FIR has been lodged against seven persons, including Ansari, who too is in jail under the charges of MCOCA.
 

Ansari, an Independent MLA, was charged under section 3(4) of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for being a member of an organised crime syndicate run by his co-accused Prem Prakash alias Munna Bajrangi, who had lost Assembly election from Jaunpur last year.

Vishwakarma added that four persons have been booked on the charges of murder, including Indoadeo Singh alias BKD, Vinopd Bharadwaj, a corporator from Bhelupur, Harihar and an unidentified person.
