A fire broke out at a factory in the busy Sealdah area in east-central part of the city this afternoon, fire brigade officials said.
At least 17 fire tenders have been rushed to the spot to douse the blaze, which was reported at around 3.30 PM, they said.
The factory, where umbrella handles are manufactured, is located at 15, South Sealdah Road near the the Sales Tax building, a congested residential area.
There is no report so far of any person being trapped in the premises, the police said.
