A major fire that ripped through a thermocol manufacturing factory in Greater Noida on Tuesday was brought under control by evening, officials said.
There was no loss of life in the fire which broke out at the private factory in Kasna area, but there was heavy loss of property, they said.
"As many as 16 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire which was reported around 1.30 pm," chief fire officer, Gautam Buddh Nagar, A K Singh said.
Heavy police deployment was also made at the spot, the officer said, adding that a short circuit was suspected to have triggered the fire.
"The factory was next to a petroleum products facility. The situation could have been worse had the fire spread," Singh said.
He said the fire was largely brought under control by around 6 pm.
Earlier, clouds of thick, black smoke billowing from the factory filled the sky and were visible from a distance.
