Nearly 40 acres of standing wheat crop in two villages of Hadiabad Ekta Palace area were today destroyed in a fire, police said.

The fire spread across 40 acres of land in village Mananwali and Nawapind, causing crop loss of lakhs of rupees, they said.

The affected farmers alleged that fire flames came galloping from adjoining villages Daulatpur-Salarpur and engulfed their crop fields.

Villagers and one fire tender prevented the fire to spread to other wheat fields, police said, adding the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertain.
