Five cadres of the Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) militant group were arrested while trying to serve extortion notes in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills district, the police said today.
Acting on a tip off on presence of AMEF cadres who were travelling in a car with an intention to serve extortion notes to businessmen, the police swung to action and rounded up five of them, district SP Ramesh Singh said
The incident took place yesterday at around 5 pm, but raids continued till today evening.

He said the five cadres were on their way to collect and serve extortion notices to businessmen when they were caught waiting near THE 7th Mile bridge.
From their possession, 25 extortion notes signed by an area commander, a SUV, seven mobile phones and Rs 8,000 in cash were seized, the SP said.
A case was registered and a thorough investigation is on, he said.
