Eleven-year-old Narendra Naik from Sangolda of north Goa has became the first Goan to be selected for the Reliance Foundation Young Champs Academy.
Narendra along with 16 other candidates will join the existing crop of talent at the academy in Mumbai.
Being part of the Goan Football Development Council's program, Narendra's journey began when he was invited to participate at the trials which were conducted by FC Goa.

He was one among the 18 and first from Goa to be shortlisted for the camp to be held in Mumbai. Players there underwent a challenging program which included learning valuable football skills and attending theoretical sessions and seminars, a release issued by the Academy here said.
Narendra emerged among the top 17 out of a possible 158 candidates and earned his place at the academy where he will begin his stint beginning from June 15.
