A state-owned transport corporation bus was today impounded on the orders of a court here for failure to pay compensation to a woman injured in an accident, who eventually died three years ago.

District Court judge in-charge, M Sarvamangala ordered seizure of the bus as the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation had not paid the Rs 3.78 lakh compensation awarded to Shankunthalabai by the court in 2009, two years after the accident involving one of its buses.

The accident victim had moved the court here seeking a compensation of Rs 15 lakh, after she was knocked down by the bus while getting down from another bus on September 22, 2007.

Subsequently, the court, in its order on September 8, 2009, had directed the government to pay Rs. 3.78 lakh to the woman.

However, the payment was not made and the woman died in 2013, police said.
