The government today gave the nod for an MoU with Afghanistan in the field of outer space, the signing of which will help India gain a foothold in Kabul's strategic space and communication sector.

The MoU envisages cooperation between the two countries for application of space technologies in education, agriculture, weather forecasting and telecommunications, a statement here said.

It will also enable cooperation in rural health, sanitation, urban development, resource mapping, navigation and remote sensing.

The MoU will help in developing Afghanistan's space sector and burnish India's credentials as a nation with advanced space technology, one that can also assist other countries, the statement said.

Further, the cooperation will also boost high-tech jobs in the two countries in both core Science & Technology and R&D fields.
