Taking a serious note of the death of a girl student at an engineering college campus during Onam festivities, Kerala government has decided to formulate strict conditions and guidelines for holding celebrations within educational institutions.

A high-level meeting of Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, senior police and officials from Education department would work out the norms in this regard, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters here.

"Government views the incident at College of Engineering very seriously," Chandy said.

20-year-old Tasni Basheer, a third-year civil engineering student, was killed after being hit by a jeep driven by Onam revellers on August 20 inside the college campus. She was on her way to hostel when the accident happened.

Government decided to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Tansi, Chandy said.
