Gujarat Minister of State for Water Resources Nanubhai Vanani today criticised the Aam Admi Party for picking activist Medha Patkar as a candidate for the coming Lok Sabha elections, and called her "anti-Narmada".

AAP yesterday released its first list of candidates. Patkar has been chosen for the Mumbai North East seat.

Vanani, while addressing a farmers' rally at a function here, said, "AAP is trying to send anti-Narmada persons into Lok Sabha."

"We all know who Medha Patkar is, and now the time has come to choose the candidate: those who believe in development or those who are against the development," he said.

Patkar had led the Narmada Bachao Andolan which opposed construction of big dams across Narmada river.

Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of the ambitious Rs 10,000 crore Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation project at the function.

"We have to work hard for the completion of Narmada project, and we all know who is favouring development and who is against it," Vanani said.
