Actor Sanjay Dutt, who turned 57 today, is happy that he is celebrating his birthday with his children after three years.
The actor was released in February after serving his sentence in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
"For three years my birthday was spent in jail. Today I am a free man. I am so happy that I am celebrating my birthday with my kids. I will take them out today for dinner," he told reporters here.
"There is no party. It is better to be with family and close friends," he added.
His wife Manyata gifted him a car while the kids gave him a card. "My kids gave a beautiful card, cake and lot of love. What more can I ask for? My wife gave me a car as a birthday gift. It's sweet of her. I was surprised. I am fond of cars," he added.
Recollecting his birthdays while in jail, Dutt said they would get whatever was cooked in the jail normally. "They used to make cookies as well. I thank jail authorities, the staff, policemen and all those in jail they all gave me love," he said.
The "Khalnayak" actor said he missed his parents a lot on his birthdays.
"There are ups and downs in life. When you are up there will be lot of people with you but when you are down no one will be there. But that time just focus on your goal," Dutt said when asked about the struggles in his life.
His friends have always stood by him in his tough time, he said.
