Heavy rain lashing the city for the second consecutive day today resulted in most of the low lying areas being inundated by floodwaters, District Collector, C A Lathat said.

The district administration has declared holidy for educational institutions tomorrow in view of the heavy rains. Except professional colleges, all aided and un-aided schools in the district will remain closed, she said.

The holiday will be applicable to central schools also, she said.

If the rain continued the Kakkayam dam shutters might be opened and people living near the Kuttiyad river have been advised to remain alert, she said.

The city had experienced heavy down pour last night and as a result low-lying areas including Ashokapuram, pavamani road and Mavoor road were inundated affecting flow of traffic.
