Heroin, banned tablets worth Rs 3 crore seized, 3 held

A huge cache of heroin and banned tablets worth over Rs three crore were seized from the possession of three persons including a woman in the heart of the city here today, officials said.

Acting on a tip off, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths conducted raids in one of the hotels located in Khyndailad area, a commercial hub in the heart of the city and arrested the persons alleged to have been involved in smuggling the banned substance, they said.

About one kg of high quality heroin and over 20,000 amphetamine tablets, besides a pistol with two live ammunition were seized from their possession, Deputy Commissioner of Custom Preventive, North East Region, Isaac Kharkongor.
 

Terming the seizure as one of the biggest drug hauls in Meghalaya, he said the market value of the consignment would be around Rs three crore.

The NCB officials said the source of the consignment was routed from neighbouring Myanmar via Manipur and was meant for retail dealers in Meghalaya.

While the names of the accused (not hailing from Meghalaya) were withheld due to investigation, the accused persons have been booked under NDPS Act and Arms Act, respectively.
