Hiroshima Day observed in Mumbai

Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and National Service Scheme volunteers and students of SNDT and Mumbai University today organised a peace procession here on the occasion of Hiroshima Day, which marks dropping of atomic bomb over Hiroshima in Japan during the second world war.

As many as 2,983 students along with social activists and citizens marched from Azad Maidan to Hutatma Chowk in south Mumbai.

They carried a huge banner depicting slogans such as "No More Hiroshima" and "We want to grow, not to blow up" and placards with similar messages.

The participants took a pledge to work for peace and a nuclear-free world at Azad Maidan.
 

On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, followed by another attack on the city of Nagasaki in Japan on August 9.
