A housewife who was allegedly raped and then stabbed by her brother-in-law at Murabari village in Gomati district of Tripura is struggling for life in hospital, police said today.
The accused identified as Biswajit Bhowmik, raped his sister-in-law on Sunday night and was absconding. He also stabbed the victim before fleeing, Superintendent of Police (Control), Uttam Bhowmik said today.
The woman was admitted to the Tripura Sundari hospital on Sunday and was shifted to the Agartala Government Medical College next day, he said.

The accused was absconding but his motor-bike was recovered from the house of a relative, Superintendent of Police Gomati district, T Sambandhan said adding that efforts are on to nab him.
Working President of Ganatantrik Nari Samity, the women's wing of ruling CPI-M condemned the incident and demanded punishment for the perpetrator.
A delegation of the opposition Congress led by PCC Chief Diba Chandra Hrankhawl and working president Ashish Saha visited the victim's home.
"Our main concern is that women are not safe in the Left-ruled Tripura and we demand exemplary punishment for the accused," Saha said.
