I-T Dept Ludhiana asks people to pay tax

With "low" growth registered in tax collections in this region, the Income Tax Department here today asked people to pay tax to avode any penal action.

Informing this, Income Tax Chief Commissioner (Ludhiana) Nishi Singh said tax collection growth in Ludhiana region stood at 13.5 per cent so far in current fiscal which is lower as compared to national target of 19 per cent.

"Growth of revenue rate in Ludhiana is much less as compared to national as well as target fixed for the neighbouring commissionrates," she said here.

Ludhiana commissionerate of Income tax department has jurisdiction over Ludhiana, Moga, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur and some part of Sangrur with about 7.39 lakh assesses.
 

She said the net tax collections from Ludhiana was Rs 2,365 crore as against a target of Rs 3,510 crore for current financial year.

"In order to avoid any penal action, it is my appeal to the taxpayers that they should file their returns voluntarily and pay their dues," she said.
