Delhi Election Commission had received more than 50 per cent applications online from eligible persons to register themselves as voters last year, a senior official said.
"Delhi has emerged as a model in the process of voter registration and its has made significant progress in online registration. This is also the first state where voter registration centre have been set up in almost each constituency," said Umesh Sinha, Deputy Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India, on the sidelines of Matdata Mahotsav organised here.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Dr Chandra Bhushan Kumar said that it was for the first time in 2015 that 56 per cent applications were received through online platform which was more than offline applications for registration as voters in Delhi.

Sinha said in the coming days all the polling centres will be converted into model "queue-less" polling stations which would be disabled and senior citizen friendly.
"The ECI is trying to implement the model polling station concept which was started in Delhi and I think that in the coming days all the polling stations will be converted into model polling stations."
The ECI is also trying to implement Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in a phased manner during the elections although it is yet not possible to implement in each elections, he said.
"As per orders of the Supreme Court, it is being used in representative manner as samples during elections. It is not possible to implement it everywhere but we are trying to use it as representative manner in elections," he said.
The Deputy Election Commissioner highlighted the significance of the Matdata Mahotsav saying it was a peek into the hard work of people of India, ECI and security personnel whose contribution was there in the success of democratic process of elections in the country.
The Chief Electoral Officer said 100 persons registered at the Matdata Mahotsav to become voters while a large number of visitors attended it to have a peek into the whole gamut of elections and functioning of the Election Commission.
