The Eastern Naval Command has constituted a Board of Inquiry (BOI) to investigate corruption allegations made by sailor, who has been admitted to a naval hospital by the force for "hyper anxiety and agitation".

Sunil Humor Sahu, Shipwright Artificer, a sailor posted at INS Kattabomman in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, had in two written complaints on October 13 and October 2 made allegations of financial irregularities against his superior officers.

A three-member BOI, which is headed by a Commodore-rank officer, is expected to submit its findings in a fortnight, a statement released by the Navy said.

Sahu has been carrying out non-strenuous duties as he suffers from generalized seizures and low backache, it said.

On October 22, he was observed to be in a state of hyper anxiety and agitation, it said. Considering the limited medical facilities at Tirunelveli and safety of the sailor, Sahu was shifted to nearest naval hospital Sanjivini on October 23 for observation and medical attention.

"On a request from the sailor, his family has been permitted to accompany him to the hospital, as a special case," the statement said.
