French Ambassador Francois Richier today said perception of investors about West Bengal was not the best one and no new French investments were in the pipeline in the state.

"Perception that investors may have about West Bengal is not the best one", Richier told a news conference here.

"There is one company from France having difficulties," he said citing the instance of a French company facing problems at Haldia.

There are law and order issues, he said adding "I have discussed the issue with state industry minister Amit Mitra in detail."

"There is no activity there and the equipment are rusting", he said.

The French company Louis Dreyfus Armateurs had entered into a joint venture to form Haldia Bulk Terminal for bulk cargo loading. The firm was widely known to have presence in many countries.

Each state would have to create a conducive environment for investors, Richier said.

On land acquisition issues in West Bengal, he said industry should have access to sufficient land.

During his three-day visit to the city, Richier met West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim and Power Minister Manish Gupta. He also met state BJP president Rahul Sinha.
