Jail inmate commits suicide

An inmate of Ambala central jail, who was a former Sub Inspector of Police, committed suicide in his cell, police said today.

Ganga Bishan (66), a former SI who was serving sentence in an abetment to suicide case, was found hanging in his cell yesterday night, police said.

Bishan, a resident of Titram village in Kaithal district, had been sentenced by court to five years imprisonment in an abetment to suicide case in 2013, they said.

The cause of suicide could not be ascertained so far, police said.

Post mortem was conducted on his body at a civil hospital at Ambala city in the presence judicial magistrate today, police said.
