Jammu and Kashmir Police has given Rs 2.5 crore to 1,108 of its serving and retired personnel and the families of deceased officers out of a fund generated exclusively by contributions from its ranks.
"During first six months of current year, Rs 2.5 crore has been paid to benefit 1,108 serving, retired policemen and the families of deceased personnel out of Contributory Police Welfare Fund," DGP Ashok Prasad said yesterday during a meeting at Police Headquarters.
The Special Contributory Police Welfare Fund was exclusively generated by monthly contribution from police ranks with no supplementation from government, he said.
The fund is used to provide succour to the families of the personnel who die in service irrespective of their cause of death, Prasad said.
He stressed for quick disbursement of welfare relief to the families of those personnel who laid down their lives while performing their duties.
The DGP said there was a need to promote this spirit of contribution for the overall welfare of the force.
