The night temperatures across Kashmir division including summer capital Srinagar slipped below freezing point, ending nearly week-long respite from the bone chilling cold.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius - the same as was recorded on November 26 night following which the mercury showed upward trend and even settled five degrees above normal at 4.2 degrees Celsius on November 29, a spokesman of the MeT office said here today.
The minimum temperatures also recorded a dip in other parts of the division with Leh in frontier region of Ladakh emerging as the coldest recorded place with a low of minus 11.4 degrees Celsius.

The spokesman said Kargil town, also in Ladakh, was the second coldest recorded place with a minimum of minus 10.0 degrees Celsius.
In Kashmir Valley, Pahalgam hill resort which also serves as the base camp during the annual Amarnath yatra was the coldest place with a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius.
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, the spokesman said.
