Veteran actress Kathy Bates has denied reports that she was left limping at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards after someone stepped on her foot during the event.

Bates, 66, who was nominated for best supporting actress in a series, mini-series or motion picture made for TV, for her role in 'American Horror Story: Freak Show', said she did not actually scream in pain, reported People magazine.

"I actually let out a yelp because I couldn't contain my excitement at meeting Allison Tolman," she said.

Bates even danced at the HBO after-party.

Both Bates nor Tolman failed to win despite their respective nominations. She lost the award to Joanne Froggatt of 'Downton Abbey'.

Earlier she walked the red carpet flashing her cellphone, which was emblazoned with the words 'Je Suis Charlie' - a rally cry honouring the victims of the recent terror attack on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's Paris office.
