Former additional solicitor general and lawyer Darius Khambata has resigned as trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.
"Yes, I resigned on October 25 as Trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust due to increasing professional commitments," Khambata said in a text reply.
Sir Dorabji Tata Trust is among the largest trusts along with Sir Ratan Tata Trust, which were created by the families of the sons of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the group, that control about 66 per cent of the equity capital of Tata Sons -- the promoter of the major operating Tata companies.
Khambata was one of the seven trustees. His resignation comes at a time when the war of words between ousted Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and the Tatas escalated.
Yesterday, Ratan Tata in a letter to group employees wrote that Mistry's removal was "absolutely necessary" for the future success of the Tata group.
The letter came shortly after Mistry ratcheted up war of words by rebutting "insinuations" of mishandling a dispute with Japan's NTT DoCoMo, saying Ratan Tata was party to all decisions regarding the telecom venture.
On October 24, Cyrus Mistry was sacked as chairman of Tata Sons and was replaced by Ratan Tata, from whom he had taken over the reins of the over USD 100 billion salt-to-software conglomerate four years ago.
