Nirmal Khatri resigns as Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Chief

Newly-appointed AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad had indicated that a change was on the cards

Congress taunts 'unnatural' PDP-BJP alliance

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Uttar Pradesh PCC chief Nirmal Khatri has resigned but the party high command has so far not taken any decision, party sources said Tuesday night.

Khatri's action has come close on the heels of reports that the party was looking for a new PCC chief for the state especially from the Brahmin community ahead of the Assembly polls scheduled for early next year.

Newly-appointed AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad had indicated that the change in the PCC was on the cards.

Khatri was appointed PCC chief few years back. The Congress has fared miserably in Uttar Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha polls where it could just manage two of the 80 seats with party chief Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi becoming victorious from their pocket boroughs of Rae Bareli and Amethi.
