Kidnap bid on examinee foiled, resisting mother molested

A group of three youths today tried to kidnap a girl on way to her board examination centre and allegedly molested her mother when she resisted their attempt here in Burdwan district, police said.

Four persons were arrested, including the father of one of them, in connection with the incident after the girl's mother lodged an FIR, police said.

The incident occurred at about 10.30 am at Subhaspalli locality when the girl was going on a motorbike to her Madhyamik examination centre alongwith her mother and a male companion, a police officer said.

Madhyamik, the school leaving examination conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, began today.
 

The three youths reached the spot in another bike and tried to pull the girl. The bikes stopped and when her mother tried to resist the kidnap attempt, they attacked her too tearing her sari, the officer said.

As people gathered there, the attackers could not flee and police arrested them from the spot.

In the FIR, the girl's mother said her family was being threatened by a man for some time over some issue. There was also a threat that her daughter would be kidnapped, the officer said.

The man, the father of one of the three youths, was arrested later, he said.

Police escorted the girl to her examination centre and back home after the examination was over, the officer said.
