The Kingdom of Dreams, a cultural amusement park on the outskirts of New Delhi that attempts to fuse Broadway and Bollywood is soon going to launch a movie based on its running Bollywood-themed musical "Jhumroo".
"We are converting Jhumroo into a film and will be using Kishore Kumar's last recorded song. The song is going to be re-composed by one of the top music directors that I select to work with," Viraf Sarkari, Director, Kingdom of Dreams (KOD) told PTI.
In an auction in August 2012, KOD had acquired rights to legendary playback singer Kishore Kumar's unreleased song, that was recorded just three days before the legendary singer's demise in October 1987.
The musical "Jhumroo" produced by the Great Indian Nautanki Company, a joint venture between Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt Ltd. And Apra Group, revolves around the story of a fan of Kishore Kumar and is filled with evergreen melodies by the late singer. Television stars Gaurav Gera and Shweta Gulati currently play the lead roles.
"Work is going on for making 'Jhumroo' into a film. I think by next year we are going to release it. The cast and crew are going to be different because it is a film format. The cast and crew have not been finalised as yet. We are in talks with people. Maybe three months down the line we will be able to tell you the cast and crew when we launch the film," says Sarkari.
Apart from 'Jhumroo' the 850-seater Nautanki Mahal at the KOD has also been hosting another musical, 'Zagoora', which celebrated its 1000th show with a lot of pomp and show recently.
Among the other billed attractions scheduled at KOD is "My Big Fat Indian Wedding" a choreographed play with elaborate costumes which invites audiences to be participate.
"The traveling production- 'Balle Balle-My Big Fat Indian Wedding' is a unique wedding musical where the audience will be going to be the wedding guests. Hopefully Balle Balle is going to be on stage from the beginning of next year. These productions take time because we are not executing the conventional format of theatre, we are executing spectacular theatre model," says Sarkari.
