Lankan woman, kids arrive in TN by illegal ferry; detained

A Sri Lankan woman who arrived at nearby Dhanushkodi with her two children by an illegal ferry was detained by police and sent to refugee camp in Mandapam.

Sindhilina Margret told police that she was forced to flee Jaffna as her husband was in deep debt in Sri Lanka and the creditors were harassing her, police said.

The woman also said she had earlier been an inmate of the refugee camp in Tiruchirappalli and returned to Sri Lanka without informing officials.
